Who are you and where are you from?

King Supah and I’m from Bastrop, Louisiana

How long have you been doing music?

Since 16 probably.

King Supah 1

Why did you start?

I used to walk around mad all the time with nobody to talk to. I got picked on a lot. Fat jokes teasing me. Ya know? Just mad man. Wanting to fight everybody for the smallest things. I needed a release. A relief. All my brothers weren’t as big as me. Nobody could really relate. There was nobody around my time who was making relatable music to what I was going through.

Family life?

I was raised by my two grandmothers. My mom raised me prior to her being incarcerated. We had an abusive, complicated relationship. I don’t speak much in it no le cause I’ve healed and moved forward from it. I try to tell anybody if they want to know what happened it’s in all my music.

What about your dad? If you don’t mind me asking?

Of course. He was on his own journey so to say in my early years. We had king talks about what happened during those years. He’s been there in more ways than the one on the back end though. Great mentor. I look up to them in more ways than one. We are good. We are locked in now.

Is there anyone who inspires you to make the music you make now?

Yea. My grandmothers. My brothers. My stepdad. My former teammates. Kids always reaching out jr telling me not to stop cause they need my music. I make relatable music. No club hopping. No balling 24/7. I talk about the trenches. Behind on bills. No food no clothes. Like I get it. And they love that. That’s who I speak for.

You mentioned teammates. You were pretty good at football. Why’d you hang up the cleats so young?

The game kind of hung them up for me(laughs). At the level I made it to, once you graduate college you don’t get another guaranteed play. Your future is pretty much in the hands of other people. Just a big waiting game. I don’t like waiting. I had to get to the money. The game taught me all it could through. I’m grateful.

What else can we expect from King Supah?

I’m just here to paint pictures with words man. I don’t want anything from the game. No fame. No accolades. I make my money and stay out of the way. And as long as people can relate I guess I’ll keep making the music. I’m grateful to my God Jehovah for everything.
